Why do you cook in BBQ Contests

There was not any comments on the BBQ Forum about this poll.  Over the years a lot of people have discussed where they purchase their meat and before this poll was set up I had a fairly good idea as to what the results would be.  It turned out just about as I expected it to be.  Sam's is a major supplier of meat for barbecue cooks all over the country.  Of course this could always change if they let the quality of their meat products slip.

Also a lot of competition cooks use really expensive cuts of meat that they obtain directly from the packers, small butcher shops and gourmet meat markets.  The people that use these more expensive outlets seem to be people who are really trying to produce the absolute best barbecue and are willing to pay what ever they have to win contests.

So how do I compare to everyone else?  Well, I purchase most of my meat products at Sam's and the rest comes from a small meat market in Raytown, MO called "The Store."  I like The Store because I can discuss the products with the owner and I have learned to trust the quality of the products he sells.
